BWE PTA Scholarship Information and Requirements
Scholarships:
- An annual $2500 award distributed between no more than 3 recipients, based on eligibility and responses to specific criteria.
- The Beverly Woods Elementary School PTA Scholarship Committee will review and and rank all applicants based on the following criteria:
- GPA
- Essay submission
- Community service and extracurricular activities
- Selected finalists may be invited to participate in an interview. Interviews will be conducted by a selection committee composed of Beverly Woods Elementary faculty and staff as well as members of the Board of Directors of the Beverly Woods Elementary School PTA.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must have been enrolled at and attended Beverly Woods Elementary School at any point during their educational career.
- Applicants must be a current high school senior at South Mecklenburg High School or have just graduated from South Mecklenburg High School through an early graduation program and have/will receive a high school diploma (incoming college freshman only).
- Applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll as a full-time student as defined by the accredited educational institution at which the applicant has enrolled or will enroll. Enrollment at only colleges, universities and junior/community colleges will be considered.
- Applicants shall notify the organization of other financial aid that has been awarded to the applicant.
- Applicants may not be a prior recipient of the BWE PTA scholarship.
- Applications must be received by the organization’s announced deadline.
- Should the recipient withdraw from the educational institution for reasons other than extreme hardship, meaning serious illness of the recipient, death of a close family member or such other circumstances as would lead the organization to conclude that withdrawal was the most reasonable action for the recipient to take, any refund due from the educational institution for that current academic year up to the scholarship amount received shall be returned directly to Beverly Woods Elementary School PTA. In such a case, the recipient shall not be eligible to receive any further stipend from the organization. In cases of extreme hardship, the recipient’s eligibility for future stipends will be determined on a case by case basis by the organization and committee.
- No exceptions to eligibility rules shall be made, unless approved, in advance, by the organization and scholarship committee. The determination of the committee is final.
